Sub-optimal planning at the project or portfolio level can lead to ineffective and unbalanced resource allocation and ultimately misalignment of the projects to the organization’s strategic priorities. This session will look at three different approaches to drive informed decisions at the project, functional and organizational levels by helping to communicate inflection points, dependencies, gaps and opportunities within a project or portfolio. At the organizational level, an overview of approaches for portfolio optimization and the benefits of optimizing your portfolio will be shared. At a functional level, a unique approach to visualizing and communicating aggregate resource demands through an effort focused lens will be shared to identify constraints and help prioritize resources. Finally, decision science will be used to evaluate scenarios and alternatives to frame complex strategic issues and clarify tradeoffs to gain cross-functional support.

Learning Objectives

Apply analytics, visualizations and decision science to drive strategic decision making at the project, functional or organizational level; Analyze inflection points and how to utilize data visualization and analytics to evaluate scenarios.
